The story of the poor man starts in a small and simple village. In this village, there lived a poor man with his family. The man has a wife and four children. The man couldn’t meet the end and most times, his family would go to bed without eating anything.
The poor man and his wife were unhappy, and they always wondered what they had done wrong in their previous lives to be able to live in such abject poverty. The couple couldn’t bear to see their children go hungry, and yet they didn’t ask others for help.
Each time the children begged their father for food, he wasn’t able to give them anything because he was penniless. Despite his hard work, the man still found it difficult to provide for his family. Meanwhile, there was a sage who happened to live in the same village as the poor man.
Everyone in the village knew that the sage talked to God. The poor man couldn’t bear his sad and fulfilling life anymore, so he went to meet the man who could talk to God. The poor man asked the sage to help him ask God why he couldn’t meet his family’s daily needs.
The man told the sage that he couldn’t bear to see his children suffer any longer. The sage replied to the man that he would speak to God on his behalf. The following day, the sage went into the forest to have some alone time with God.
The man asked God why the poor man couldn’t provide for his family. God replied the sage that he has assigned the poor man a limited amount of food which he has assigned for the man’s entire life. God further said that he has a limited share of food assigned to the man throughout his entire life.
After hearing God’s reply, the sage went back to the village and informed the man about what God said. The poor man then asked the sage to tell God to give him all the food that he had assigned to him. The sage then said that he would go and ask God to give the man all his food.
The following day, the sage went to the forest again to ask God to give the poor man all of his food at once. God replied to the sage that he would give the poor man all his food at once. The following day, the poor man was shocked to find so much food outside his house.
The shock overwhelmed the man so much that he couldn’t believe his eyes. With so much food, the man didn’t know what to do. The man then decided to gather all the poor people in the village and share his food. He didn’t want people to starve just like his family had did.
Everyone in the village lined up at his house and they ate his food. Despite the fact that the man gave several people his food, the quantity of the food did not decrease; instead, the food was constantly increasing each day.
The man was shocked and he decided to ask the sage. Even the sage was shocked that he had to ask God why the food kept increasing. God explained to the sage that indeed the poor man was hungry, but he remained honest.
He took part of the food and he shared the rest with the people in the village. Despite the fact that his own family his starving, the man decided to also feed the entire village. Because of his kindness, the people are blessing the poor man. They all prayed that the man would not run out of food. This ends the story of the poor man.
