The story of an old sultan begins with a farmer. The old sultan in this story happens to the be dog of a farmer. The dog had been with the farmer for a long time and he had also grown old. The dog had lost all its teeth and this made him lose his ability to bite.
One day the farmer and his wife were standing outside their house and he told his wife that he wanted to shoot the old dog as he was no longer useful to them. The wife pitied the dog and convinced her husband to keep the dog,
She told her husband that the dog had been faithful to them so they ought to keep it. The man told his wife that she wasn’t sharp because the dog wasn’t useful to them anymore so why should they keep it? He told his wife that the dog no longer had any teeth so why should they keep the dog?
The man told his wife that if they should be attacked, the dog would not protect them because it doesn’t have any teeth. While they were talking, the dog was lying on the floor. The dog heard all they said and he was sad that it was going to be the last day for him.
The dog had a friend that he confided in and this was a wolf. He narrated his whole story to the wolf. He went to meet the wolf in the night and told him his whole story. The wolf told the dog that he should relax and he shouldn’t be sad.
The wolf said that he was going to help the dog. He told the dog that the next morning, the farmer and his family would leave the house and no one would remain in the house. He told the dog that he should lie under the hedge where the farmer and his wife usually lay their child. Then he will pretend to guard the child.
While the dog was pretending to guard the child, the wolf would come out of the forest and he would carry the child. The dog will then quickly chase the wolf and he would let the child fall while the dog would take the child back to its parents.
The parents will think that the dog saved the child and they would be grateful to him. Because of this, the farmer and his wife wouldn’t harm the dog anymore. They would be grateful to the dog and take good care of him.
The dog was happy with this plan and the plan was carried out as they arranged. The farmer was scared when he saw the wolf with his child, however the dog was able to save the child. This made the farmer so happy that he said that he wouldn’t hurt the dog.
The wife was also happy and she told her husband to take good care of his dog. After a while, the dog was paid a visit by the wolf and was happy that everything had gone according to plan. The wolf told the dog that he wanted to take one of the farmer’s sheep and that the dog should turn a blind eye.
The dog told him not to try that. That if the wolf did, he would turn on him because he couldn’t betray his master. The wolf doesn’t agree with this and still wants to carry out his plan. He came later at night when everyone was asleep.
The wolf had planned to take one of the sheep at night. However, the old dog barked and the wolf was found. The farmer pursued the wolf, threatening to compensate the dog.
A wild boar challenged the dog the following day. They told the dog to come to the forest to fight and settle the matter once and for all. The old dog feared for his life because he had no strength to fight for himself.
While in the forest, the old dog couldn’t find anyone to defend him except a cat with only three legs. As they went out to duel, the poor cat was limping. The wolf and his friends waited for the dog in their appointed place. However, when they saw the dog approaching them they thought he brought a sword with him.
They mistook the tail of the cat for a sword and they thought that each time that he was limping, they thought he was picking up a stone to throw at him. The boar and the wolf intimidated each other. The boar hid under the leaves while the wolf climbed a tree in fear.
The cat spotted the boar hiding under the leaves. The cat thought the ears of the boar were a mouse and he jumped on it and bit it. The wolf was hiding in the tree and the boar warned the dog about it. They looked up and saw the dog looking down at them and he was ashamed of himself.
