The story of the best cook with a sore and the Wise King starts with Mamara. She was very beautiful and was a good cook too. However, she suffered from an ugly sore behind her left hand. This sore refused to heal and it has stopped a lot of people from buying her delicious food.
Mamara lived in a village called Komiko. One faithful day, one of the leaders in her village decided to host a few guests and some other important people at his daughter’s wedding. So he needed to find a good cook who would make all the food for his distinguished guests.
The leader then sent his men to find the best cook in the whole village. They searched high and low till they could find a good cook. Meanwhile, the men knew that Mamara was the best cook in the land and other neighboring lands, however, they didn’t want to patronize her because of the sore on the back of her left hand.
As the men continued searching, most of them were recommending the cooks that they knew. One of them recommended that Mamara should be the one to make the food for the leader’s daughter’s wedding, however, the other men rejected her.
As the wedding was coming close, the men were still searching for a good cook for the wedding. However, they couldn’t find one. Almost all the other arrangements for the wedding had been concluded but they couldn’t find a good cook to prepare the food for the wedding. This worried the leader and his wife.
One of the men who was searching for a good cook recommended Mamara. The man advised the leader to make a contest for cooks and he would decide who was the best cook amongst them. The leader took his advice and so they got everything ready for the competition.
Mamara won the tournament because she was the best cookout of all of the competitors. The leader accepted the outcome of the competition and he chose Mamara to prepare the food for his daughter’s wedding. However, the other men weren’t pleased with the leader’s decision to choose Mamara.
They thought about how would the leader’s guests feel when they heard that the cook who prepared the food for the wedding was a woman with an ugly sore on the back of her hand. The men further stated that the guests would feel uneasy knowing that they ate the food.
The leader then decided to call a doctor to check and treat the sore on the back of Mamara’s hand. Then the leader told the doctor that he wouldn’t want his guest to notice the dressing on the hand of the cook in case she needed to appear in public.
The leader then decided to award the best cook with an amazing gift. He then invited an award designer and he told him to design a befitting prize for the cook. He told the award designer to make a design for the back of the cook’s hand.
The leader did this so that he could cover the sore behind Mamara’s hands so that nobody could see it. Mamara received an amazing prize from the designer for her hand. After receiving it, she wore the gloves.
She wore gloves, covering the wound dressing completely and revealing only the prize the leader gave her to onlookers. The whole crowd cheered after seeing the prize given to her. The leader then pleaded with the people to not tell a single soul that the cook had a sore on the back of her hand. After hearing the plea, the people obeyed him.
On the wedding day, Mamara made the food for the event and it was delicious. The guests ate and they were filled. After this, all the guest started inviting Mamara to cook for them at their event. All through her life, nobody who hadn’t known of her wound who never guessed that she had a sore on the back of her hand.
This is because the leader of the village gave her a prize which was a beautiful glover to cover the dressing of the sore on her hand and also the people in the village obeyed the leader by not telling anyone about the sore.
