The story of the cat who was afraid of mice starts with a cat who was terrified of mice. Ironically, his father, Tom Cat was renowned for his mice-catching skills. He had even won a blue ribbon for being the best mouse catcher in the town.
The local farmers contacted the cat’s mother, Allie to help them to catch mice. The cat’s father had black fur with a white chest, while the mother’s fur was grey. The cat was born in a barn and was Tom and Allie’s first kitten.
Both parents were proud of their little kitten and they named him Kit. His fur was a mixture of both his parent’s fur. On his fur, he had little stripes which were black and brown. Both parents had great expectations for their little kitten.
As the kitten was born, both parents started training him. His parent thought him how to sneak up on things and pounce on them. The little kitten would imitate his father until he got better at it. Months passed and Kit was not big enough to catch the real thing.
After so much practice it was time for the Kit to start chasing the real thing. A farmer’s wife hired both Tom and Allie to help her catch the mice in her barn. She brought both cats into her home and then went to sleep.
That same night the mice left their holes to steal some crumbs of cheese that was on the floor. There were so many mice and they were all running around the kitchen. The mice were having a great time and all this was a surprise to Kit because he had never seen one before.
Kit quickly jumped on the kitchen counter because he was terrified. His mother asked him what was the matter and he told her that he was afraid of mice. Mice were scampering around in such large numbers, making him fearful that they would bite him.
His mother told him not to be silly and instructed him to get off the kitchen counter. Allie then went on to show her son what to do with the mice. She immediately pounced on one of the mice and ate it right away. After that, she went for other mice and this scared the rest of the mice till they all ran away.
Allie then proceeds to show her son how to pounce on mice and not to be scared of them. She was concerned about his father’s opinion. Both Tom and Allie were the best at catching mice in the whole town, yet their son was scared of mice despite their expertise.
The following day, the same event repeated itself and his mother showed him how to pounce on the mice. The mother told him to come down but he wouldn’t listen and he continued to stay on top of the fridge.
The following day, Allie went to the barn to do her seasonal cleaning. Her husband had gone on a trip with some of his friends from the neighboring town. While both the parents were out of the house, little Kit was alone at the house.
Immediately after Allie left the house, Kit went on to explore the house. He thought that the house looked great and he would like to live there. Kit climbed the stairs gently and he reached the second floor. That floor had three rooms, but only one of them was open.
Kit went into the room and there he saw a boy sleeping peacefully on the bed. Kit instantly jumped on the bed and he gently patted the boy’s head with his paw. This awakened the boy and he grinned. He complimented the cat and stroked its fur.
This had never been done for Kit before, so he liked it. The boy picked up the cat and took it to the kitchen. The parents of the boy entered the kitchen and they complained about the mice and threatened to throw the cat outside if the mice were still around.
The boy begged his parents to keep the cat and asked them to give the cat another chance. They agreed to let him stay if he was able to catch the mice. Kit then prepared to catch the ice because he wanted to live with the boy in his beautiful home.
However, the same thing happened as before. The mice still scared Kit, and he jumped on the fridge again. The farmer was angry by this and threatened to kick the cat out if he couldn’t catch the mice in a day.
This made Kit very sad and he kept thinking about the boy. Kit prepared to capture the mice when night fell. However, there was a huge storm that night and the thunderstorm had scared them back into their holes.
Not long after Kit could smell smoke and this was coming from the kitchen. Kit ran upstairs to wake the little boy up. The boy got up and saw that the kitchen was burning. He quickly called his parent who called the fire department.
The fire department was able to put out the fire and they told the farmer and his wife that if they hadn’t called the fire department quickly, they might have lost their house and their lives. The following day, the local news heard this story and soon the whole country heard about the cat’s heroic act.
The farmer and his wife were more than happy and they announced that the cat was now part of their family. This heroic act earned him a reward.
