Each morning, the dog would pass by the stables where the elephants were and he would smell the wonderful food prepared for the elephants. The smell made the dog much hungrier. After enduring it, the dog could no longer take it and so he decided to have the elephant’s food.
The dog passed through a gap and he was able to enter into the stables. The dog saw the elephant having his breakfast and he asked if he could have a little. He accepted the elephant’s offer to eat alongside him. After eating, the dog thanked the elephant.
Afterward, the dog became a frequent guest at the elephant stable and they became friends. Each time the elephant went for his Royal duties, the dog would follow him. After a while, the dog was starting to look a little fuller than before when he was skinny.
The dog became so attractive that one wealthy man asked the elephant keeper if he could buy the dog from them. The dog didn’t belong to him, but another servant who also worked in the palace. In order to earn some money, the elephant keeper then made the decision to sell the dog to the rich man.
No one was happy about this and the elephant keeper had to lie to the dog’s owner that the dog ran away. The elephant knew that the servant was lying. The royals saw that the elephant was getting thinner because he refused to eat.
They then sent out their doctor to check what was wrong with the elephant. The doctor reported that nothing physical was wrong with the elephant. He concluded that the elephant was psychologically ill.
The doctor told the royals that the elephant was longing for a lost friend who had either gone missing or had died. The royals called for the elephant keeper and narrated everything that the doctor had told them. They asked the servant if he knew of the elephant’s beloved friend.
The servant informed his employers that the elephant had been taken away since he knew it was the dog that was missing. The royals heard this and they claimed that whoever took the dog would suffer a severe punishment if he wouldn’t return him.
When the news reached the wealthy man, he quickly returned the dog back to the servant. The man then asked for his money back, however, the servant had spent most of it and he only returned a few to the man.
They both rejoiced, having been reunited in each other’s company. Both animals shared something much more important than food and this was their genuine love and friendship.
