The story of the eagle and the fox begins in a forest. The forest was deep, and several animals lived there. There were so many tall trees in the forest, and an eagle built her bird nest in one of them. Under the same tree was the house of a fox. The fox dug a den beneath the roots of the same tall tree.
One faithful day, as the fox left her den to go hunting, she left behind her little cubs. Before she left, she asked the eagle to help her watch over them. Seeing that the little cubs were all alone, the eagle thought that this was an easy way to take the cubs and feed her little ones.
So, the eagle flew down and she took the cubs up to her nest to feed her little eaglets. After the fox returned from her hunt, she saw the state of her home and she was shocked. Not long after, she heard the cries of her little cubs up above the tall tree.
The fox then asked the eagle to give her back her little ones. It is unfair to prey on your neighbor’s family, she informed the eagle. However, the eagle was deaf to the pleas of a fox. She paid no attention to the pleas of the fox.
The eagle took her little cubs, angering the fox. She came up with a plan to get her revenge. gSo, the fox went to some men. These men were burning a goat in the fires as a sacrifice to their gods. The fox passed through the shadows of the men who were dancing and she took one of the branches that was burning.
The fox grabbed the flaming branch and clenched it in her jaw. She then went to the tree where both she and the eagle lived. The fox then set the burning branch down at the root of the tree. Not long after the tree started burning.
Her eagle self was powerless as she watched her children and home burn to the ground. The eagle tried all she could, however there was nothing left that she could do. As the fire was burning, it roasted the little eagles in their nest and soon they all fell one by one.
The fox caught them with her mouth and she ate them all. Children are taught in this story that whatever they do to their neighbor, they will experience the same in return.
