The Frog Prince

Her beauty amazed the sun each time it shone on her face. Near the castle was a thick dark forest and, there was a lime tree in the forest. Under the lime tree was a well.

When it was sunny outside, the king’s daughters would go into the forest and they would sit near the fountain. The king’s final daughter would take a golden ball when she was bored. The girl would take the ball and throw it high in the sky.

One day as the girl was throwing up her ball, she couldn’t catch it. Instead of landing in her hands, the ball fell into the water. The girl followed the golden ball with her eyes; however, she couldn’t find the ball. The ball fell into the well which was quite deep.

The depth of the well made it impossible to see the bottom. Having lost her ball, the girl couldn’t do anything other thing than cry. As the girl was crying, someone came to comfort her. The voice questioned her about why she was crying so much and whether she was alright.

The girl looked around to see who asked her the question but she couldn’t see who asked. Then the girl looked once again and she saw that it was a frog. The frog raised its head out of the water, startling the girl.

The girl told the frog that she was crying because of her golden ball which fell into the well. The frog then assured her that he would assist her in retrieving the golden ball, so she need not worry. The frog promised to help her if only she would give him something in return.

The princess said that she would give him whatever he asked for as long as he helped her bring out her ball from the well. The princess was ready to give the frog anything he asked for including her clothes and jewelry. However, the frog answered that he didn’t need any of her clothes or jewelry.

The frog desired for the princess to be his friend and lover. The princess agreed to this and she promised to fulfil his wish. The frog then agreed to help her and he went back into the water. The frog then went into the water and in no time, he brought out the ball from the water.

She was delighted to see her ball. She picked up the ball and played with it. The frog called her back as she was ready to leave, asking her to accompany him to the castle. The princess ignored the frog and ran home.

The frog called out her name but she didn’t listen and she ran home instead. The following day the princess was sitting at the table when she noticed something making some noise.

When the princess went outside to investigate, she discovered that the frog was there. After seeing him, she slammed the door and went back to have dinner. His daughter, frightened, asked her father the king what was causing her fear.

Her father asked her why the frog was bothering her and she explained everything to him. The princess heard a knock on the door the second time and it was the frog. The frog begged the princess to open the door for him.

When her father heard the frog, he instructed her to let him in, as she had promised. After that, the princess proceeded to let the frog in. The frog asked the princess to allow him to sit beside her, however, she declined.

The frog managed to sit beside the princess and he even asked her to sit beside him. His daughter, frightened, asked her father the king what was causing her fear.  After dinner, the frog asked the princess to take him to her room to lie down.

The frog scared the princess, making her cry. Her father grew angry at her constant irritation and told her that she should not be afraid of the one who helped her in the time of her trouble.

The frog asked the princess to lie next to him while they were on the bed. She grabbed him in a fit of rage and smashed him against the wall. The frog changed into a prince as he struck the wall. The frog had turned into a handsome man with beautiful eyes,

The king ordered the prince to wed his daughter. The prince narrated to the princess that he was a frog who had been turned into a prince by a witch. Only the princess would deliver him from the spell and the following day, they would have to leave for his kingdom.

A carriage arrived at the castle the following day to take up the prince. Henry learned with devastation that he had transformed into a frog, the prince’s dependable servant. The carriage came to take the prince and the princess back to his kingdom. The prince’s servant was delighted to see his master again.
