The tale of the goose that laid the golden eggs is a class tale from one of the infamous Aesop’s Fables. The story begins with a farmer. This farmer had a little farm located on the town’s outskirts. On his little farm, he had four geese and eight cows.
The farmer had a routine. Each morning, he would carry out his daily routine which included taking care of his farm and the animals that lived on the farm. The farmer starts his daily routine by going into the cowshed. He would milk the eight cows that he owned on the farm.
He would start by gently milking the first cow, placing the milking bucket underneath it. The cow would fill the milking bucket with fresh milk after continuing the milking process. The farmer would then go on to repeat the same process for the other cows and the cows would thank the farmer.
After milking the cows, the farmer would carry on with his other routine and that was collecting the eggs from the goose shed. He would go into the shed of the goose and collect all the eggs that they had laid. The farmer would carefully pick up the eggs one after the other and then place them in a woven basket. He would then lovingly pat the geese.
The farmer would take the milk he had milked from the cow and the eggs he had collected from the geese to the market. Each Wednesday and Saturday, he would take the farm produce to sell then in the market square. This market square was located at the center of the town and many farmers would also come to offer their farm produce to sell.
The farmer was content with his life, having all that he needed. One faithful morning, the farmer set out to carry on his daily routine. He proceeded to the goose shed to gather the eggs after milking the cows. The farmer saw something strange as he prepared to gather the eggs the geese had laid.
He noticed one egg that wasn’t like the others. This egg flashed in the middle of the nest and it was the largest among the other eggs. One of the most fascinating and largest geese found the egg in its nest. The egg wasn’t white and plain like the other eggs, instead, it was gold in color.
Joyfully, the farmer picked up the golden egg and with speed, he ran to his living room. He found every little detail of the gold egg carefully examined to confirm its authenticity. The farmer intended to sell the overjoyed egg. This overjoyed the farmer, and he intended to sell the egg.
The farmer chose to sell the egg when he brought it to the market square on the following market day. Furthermore, the local jewelry dealer saw the egg displayed by the farmer. The jewelry dealer examined the egg and he told the farmer that he would pay a reasonable amount for the egg if the farmer would sell it to him.
Hearing this, the farmer agreed to the offer and he sold the egg. He was very happy as he returned home with the money he had gotten from selling the egg. The largest and most intriguing goose laid a golden egg in its nest the next morning, to the surprise of the farmer who returned to his farm to continue his daily routine.
The farmer took the golden egg and sold it to the jewelry dealer in the market square. After that day, the farmer continued seeing golden eggs in the goose nest, and in a short while the farmer became a wealthy man. However, the farmer became impatient. In addition, the farmer wondered why the fascinating goose couldn’t lay more than one golden egg per day.
Each day, the goose laid golden eggs, and the farmer believed the eggs were of great value. He thought that he shouldn’t wait around for a little portion of gold every day. Because he had a goose that was made out of gold.
The goose, to his dismay, was not made of gold but rather regular meat, and he killed it. With this, the farmer had lost the fascinating goose that laid beautiful golden eggs for him each morning.
