The King and The Foolish Monkey

The tale of the king and the foolish monkey started in a kingdom. In this kingdom, there was a king who ruled the land. The king was an animal lover and he loved monkeys. The king was very fond of monkeys and kept one as a pet.

The King and The Foolish Monkey

Because the king believed that monkeys were intelligent and thought like people, he treated his cherished pet monkey as a best friend. Although the monkey was quite foolish, he was treated like royalty. This monkey was also able to move as he pleased around the palace.

The king gave freedom to the monkey and he even had access to all the personal rooms of the king. Some of the personal servants are denied access to these rooms. Being treated like a king, the monkey was very happy.

One faithful day, the king went hunting. The king had killed several birds and other animals while hunting. The king, exhausted by this, made the decision to rest. Whenever the king was sleeping, he always asked his trusty monkey to keep guard and the monkey took this very seriously.

Since the monkey took his job seriously, he brought a sword and kept watch over the monarch while he slept. The monkey kept guard as the king slept soundly. The king’s bedroom was then visited by a housefly. The monkey noticed the housefly and he wouldn’t want the housefly to disturb the king while he was sleeping so he decided to pursue the housefly.

The housefly kept buzzing around and this made the monkey angry. He tried hard to shoo the housefly away, however he only kept flying around. This irritated the monkey. The housefly then rested on the king’s chest. The monkey would chase the housefly, but the housefly would only leave for a short while only to return later.

This made the monkey very angry. The monkey thought that the buzzing sound would wake up the king and he would be angry. The back and forth between him and the housefly also made the monkey quite excited. Then the foolish monkey used a very sharp weapon to chase the housefly. He thought to kill the housefly and end all the buzzing sounds. Then the housefly returned and he sat on the king’s chest.

The foolish monkey wanted to chase the housefly away and thought to use a sharp weapon to kill the housefly. The monkey took up his sword and began pursuing the housefly with it. As the housefly rested on the king’s chest, the foolish monkey used the sword to hit the fly.

The monkey used all his might to hit the fly, however he missed his shot. Each time the housefly would escape. The monkey struck the housefly on the king’s chest with all its power for the last time. Regrettably, he struck the king’s chest. The housefly escaped unharmed, but the king was badly injured.  The king later died from this injury. This was how the king died in the hands of his beloved monkey.

Moral Lessons From The Story

The tale of the foolish monkey and the king warns us to be very careful of the type of friends that we choose. It is impossible to place your trust in someone. As a result of the king’s friendship with the stupid monkey, he passed away too soon. The moral lesson from this story teaches us the dangers of having the wrong friends who act recklessly because they can only cause harm.

People should be given responsibility only if they possess wisdom. The foolish monkey was unable to tell the difference between harmful actions and the actions that are helpful and this led to the death of the king. If only he had the wisdom to tell which action was right, the king would still be alive.

The tale of the foolish monkey and the king teaches us to be careful of the type of friends that we have. It is very important to choose friends who are wiser and not foolish. It is also important to not blindly put your trust in people. The king died as a result of his unquestioning trust in the monkey.
