The story of the monkey and the wedge begins with a group of monkeys who live outside the city. This group of monkeys lined in a large grove. There were lots of fruit trees in the grove. There were lots of bananas that hung around the tree all year long. The other trees in the grove were laden with juicy oranges, pomegranates, and other citrus fruits.
There was a young monkey among the gang of monkeys. This monkey goes by the name Makranada. This monkey was the most energetic in the group. Makranda would jump from one tree to another tree. He would also climb some of the tallest branches in the forest. This worried the older monkeys and they warned him against this risky play.
One faithful day, some humans who came from the city arrived in the forest. This group of humans had axes in their hands and they used them to cut down the trees in the forest. This scared the monkeys and they were terrified that the humans would eventually cut off their whole grove.
Then the monkey realized that the humans were only cutting a small part of their grove. These humans had intended to build a temple. In amusement, the monkeys watched as the humans plied up the logs of wood from the tree they cut down and started building a temple.
The humans worked on building in temple for a long time. Each time the clock struck; the workers would take a lunch break. The humans would rest for an hour and then go back to their work. The monkeys then would enter the areas after the workers left.
The monkeys would jump among the piles of wood and they would pick up the construction tools. For the monkey, this was a nice break from swinging on the trees. A single, big tree trunk was chopped down one day, which Makranda came across later.
The workers were trying to cut the large tree trunk in half, but they hadn’t finished the job. They placed a large wedge where they had made a cut to prevent the trunk from snapping back together. Then Makranda jumped on the log of the wood and he sat on it.
His legs were dangling down in the wood. Then he became curious about the wood that was used as the wedge. The wedge remained in place even when Makranda attempted to jiggle it. The older monkeys saw that Makranda was messing with the wedge and they warned him not to mess with their work.
Makranda pulled the wedge and it struck quite lightly. This made his face turn red. The wedge then shot out of the tree trunk in a flying manner. The other monkeys watched as the wedge slipped from Makranda’s hands. Just as the wedge passed through the clearing, they heard a huge shout.
The loud cry was Makranda’s cry. His leg ended up stuck in the wood. This made the other monkeys feel sorry for him. Nevertheless, there was nothing they could do. It was almost impossible to pull his leg out of the trunk.
Soon after the workers returned. Then all the monkeys ran away. They climbed the trees to see what happens next. The workers left a wedge behind, and the monkey was trapped in it, surprised. Then they understood what had happened.
The workers tried to pull the trunk to get the monkey’s leg out of the wedge. The workers pulled the trunk and the monkey’s leg was free. But he couldn’t run because of his damaged leg. The workers wanted to make fun of the monkey for his stupidity, however, they felt pity for the monkey because he had hurt his leg.
The workers helped the monkey by applying the balm to his hurt leg and bandaging it. Afterwards. Makranda left the workers and went to the other monkeys. He felt embarrassed and promised the senior monkeys that he would never do something so stupid.
