The story of the tiger and the woodpecker is a classic children’s tale. The story starts with a tiger who is the ruler of the forest and he hunts the prey in his forest. One faithful day as the tiger was hungry, he went about searching for an easy animal to prey on, and soon after he found one.
The tiger had a tremendous discomfort in his throat as soon as he began to eat. While consuming the animal he had just captured, the tiger became aware that a bone was lodged in his throat. He took action to address the issue.
He tried all he could to remove the bone stuck in his throat. However, he was unable to do so. Several days passed and the tiger couldn’t go on a hunt and he also couldn’t drink any water.
The tiger was powerless because of the bone lodged in his throat. The bone disturbed him and he felt very uncomfortable. Being unable to eat, the tiger thought that he would die and fall to the ground.
A passing woodpecker spotted the tiger with his mouth agape as soon as he fell. The tiger was resting on the ground with his mouth open when the woodpecker asked him why. The tiger told the woodpecker that there was a bone lodged in its neck.
He explained to the woodpecker that he felt as though he might not live long due of this bone, which prevented him from eating or drinking. The woodpecker chose to assist the tiger in extracting the bone from his throat after hearing his tale. However, there was a catch. The tiger would have to share his supper with the woodpecker after the latter had assisted him by extracting the bone from his neck.
Hearing this, the tiger consented to the woodpecker’s demand and soon after, the bird entered the tiger’s mouth to extract the bone. The tiger rejoiced as the bone was removed from his neck. The following day, the tiger went on a hunt and he found a prey.
When the bird noticed this, he flew to the tiger to request his portion of the meal. The tiger then told the bird that there would be no sharing of food.
This made the woodpecker very angry and he didn’t let the tiger forget about the promise that he had made. The tiger then told the bird to be thankful that he had not eaten him. This statement made the bird very angry and as revenge for the tiger betraying his trust, he pecked the tiger’s eyes.
This wounded the tiger, and later he realized the bird’s strength. After hurting the tiger, the woodpecker told him to be thankful that he didn’t peck the second eye. The bird told him that he should learn to be grateful and to keep his promise and he flew away. The fact that there are consequences for every action is among the story’s most significant lessons. This ends the story of the tiger and the woodpecker.
