The story of the woodcutter’s wishes starts with a simple woodpecker who lives with his wife in a forest. Although the woodpecker is very poor, he remains hardworking and happy. One fateful day, the woodpecker went to the forest to cut down some trees.
He heard a voice while the man was about to cut down the trees. The man realized the voice was coming from under a tree and was shocked. The tree had fallen and so the man bent down to check it.
While he bent down to check it, the man saw a fairy. The little fairy explained that her wings were caught under the fallen tree, which the woodcutter freed. She then asked the woodcutter for help.
The woodcutter decided to assist her, but he was still unsure of what to do. This is because the tree was much too heavy for him to move. The fairy guided the man and he obediently followed her instructions. Not long after, the fairy wings were free and she could fly in the sky again.
The little fairy thanked the woodpecker and she promised to give him something in return. She told him that she would grant him three wishes and he should go back to his house and use the wishes however he liked. He was told by the fairy that whatever she wished for would be granted.
This made the woodpecker so excited that he hurried home to tell his wife what had happened. When the woodcutter got home, he saw his wife. The man asked his wife to prepare a meal for him because he was very hungry.
He also revealed to his wife that he had a surprise for her. The wife told him that all they had was some soup and so the woman said that she wished she had some sausages. Immediately, a few sausages appeared before the woman.
The man then explained to his wife that he helped a fairy who then granted him three wishes as a gift. He told his wife that all they had now was two wishes because she had wished for some sausages. He angrily told his wife that the sausages should stick to her nose.
When he saw this, the man started laughing at his wife’s situation. The wife told her husband that they had wasted two wishes and now they had only one left.
She told her husband to stop laughing at her situation and help her to remove the sausages from her nose because it hurts. They both tried and tried, but still, the sausages couldn’t come off the woman’s nose. Although the man wanted to use his last wish to wish for a house, lots of food, and money, however, the man loved his wife.
So, he used the last wish to wish for the sausages to come off his wife’s nose. He told his wife that he would use his last wise to help her. In order to help his wife out of her predicament, the woodcutter fulfilled his final desire.
The wife thanked her husband for his care. Both couples realized they were happy with their lives and didn’t need three wishes to make them happier. The couple promised each other to work hard to make money and get a house of their own.
