The story of two frogs and the well starts on a very hot day. It was scorching and very hot that day. The weather made it quite unbearable for the animals. The weather was so hot that even the trees in the forest were sweating.
The ponds have all dried up and even the wells were empty. The animals in the forest were thirsty including two frogs. While complaining about the heat, one of the frogs said that he couldn’t take any more of this heat or he would shrink and become a tadpole again.
The other frog replied that if they couldn’t find any well with water in it, then they would die. Feeling thirsty, both frogs decided that they would travel far to find water. They were determined and vowed to find water no matter how long it took them.
The two frogs searched for a long time and finally found a well. When they reached the well, they hoped to find some water left in it. The frogs have journeyed from a far place in search of water and they were sure to find one.
Both frogs approached the well and they were happy to see that there was water in the well. They looked in and saw lots of water. The well was deep and filled with water, luckily for the frogs. They were elated. They had been thirsty for a long time and alas they found the water they had been in search of.
One of the frogs exclaimed that they should stay in the well forever. However, the other frog disagreed and said that it is much wiser to get out of the well. He disagreed with the opinion that they should get into the well and live there.
He explained to the other frog that if the weather gets hot and the water sinks lower and lower, they too would go lower and lower with no possibility of ever getting out. Then he further explained that if that happens then they would be left stranded.
The younger frog then asked if the well could dry up. The older one replied that it was possible and if they were in the well, what would they do? This is because the well was very deep and it will not be possible for them to get out.
The story of two frogs and the well teaches children to look before they leap. If the older frog hadn’t advised the younger frog that the well was very deep and not to go into it. The well would have left both of them stranded when it dried up.
The older frog took a look and the well and he could tell that it was very deep and getting in and staying for a long time would be a mistake. This is because the weather was quite hot and several waters have dried up. The one in the well could dry up too and they would only sink lower without any hope of getting out. By looking before he leaped, the older frog was able to stop them from making a mistake.
