Why Bananas Belong to Monkeys

This story about why bananas belong to monkeys starts in a jungle where only one type of banana exists; however, there are many monkeys. In these times, only women kept a big garden of banana trees. The bananas were too much for the women to gather for themselves, so they would make a deal with the monkey.

Why Bananas Belong to Monkeys

The woman told the monkey that if he could gather many bananas, she would let him have half of them. The monkey was able to gather lots of bananas from the tree and he gave half of them to the woman. He then took all the fat bananas and gave the woman the little one that was wrinkled.

This annoyed the woman and she stayed up all night thinking of ways to get back at the monkey. The following day, the woman created a wax figure of a boy and positioned a massive basket atop his head. In the basket, the woman put some of the best bananas that she could find and these were quite tempting.

After some time, one of the biggest monkeys passed and he noticed the wax statue. The monkey believed the wax figure was offering bananas for sale. The monkey was notorious for stealing bananas from sellers and running away with them.

But since he was feeling upbeat, he decided to ask the boy for the bananas in a kind manner. The monkey asked politely if he could have some of the bananas, but the boy didn’t reply. Then the monkey asked again and the wax statue didn’t say a word.

The monkey asked again in the loudest voice and even threatened to ouch the boy if he didn’t answer him. But the boy didn’t answer. Angered, the monkey lunged at the wax statue and he got his hand stuck on the statue.

The monkey then screamed at the wax boy to let go of his hand or he would hit him with his second hand. The monkey hit the wax statue with one hand, but when he used his other hand to free himself, he got stuck.

He shouted for help. He asked the boy to let go of him or he will use his two feet to hit him. The monkey also threatened to call his friends to help him. After threatening, he cried and made noise. The monkey then shouted for help and called all his other friends.

All sizes of monkeys came to the rescue to help their friends. They came to help the largest monkey. One of the monkeys who happened to be the littlest of the monkeys came up with a plan to help the largest monkey. The little monkey told them to climb up the tree. If the tree was not tall enough then they could pile themselves on top of one another until they were really high.

The monkey who was at the top of the pyramid was the one with the loudest voice and he cried out loud to the sun, asking the sun to help their friend. Hearing this, the sun came to the rescue of the largest monkey.

The sun then shined its brightest and poured its hot rays upon the wax statue. Moments later, the wax statue started to melt and the monkey was able to remove its hands and foot from the wax statue. Soon he was free.

Seeing that the monkey was able to free himself, the woman was really angry. She decided not to raise bananas again. She moved to another part of the world to plant and harvest cabbages instead. The woman having left, the monkeys now consider the bananas as theirs and believe they own all the bananas in the world. This concludes the story of why bananas belong to monkeys.
